Nail Art for Día de muertos - Day of the Dead

Hello dear readers!

This is the 3rd year that I get to do a manicure based on Día de muertos.

If you don't know what this Mexican festivity is about, you can read my two previous posts (here and here).

What I usually do is remember my loved ones who have passed away. Well, they are always in my heart and mind, but for Mexicans, November 1st and 2nd is a special day. We dedicate this day to go to the cemetery and visit our relatives tombs, put flowers and their favorite food. We stay a while there, and talk with our family while we remember special moments of those who have gone before us. This is what I mostly remember of día de muertos in Mexico. What I just described is another way of celebrating this day besides the traditional altar de muertos.

As for this nail art, it always takes me hours to put it together. From planing the layout of all the día de muertos elements into nail art, to painting the base color, choosing all the colors that will be used, stamping, etc... 4-5 hours at least. I just like to put a lot of thought and heart into it, as if it was my own altar.

Here you can see many elements surrounding this tradition. Two skeletons in such "alive expressions" that symbolizes death as part of life itself and a reflection of ourselves. Cómo me ves te verás (The way you see me now, you will look like). The two nails in the middle represent my memories of going to the cemetery to leave my grandfather food and lighting a candle so it would guide his spirit to us. In our minds, he would know we were lighting that candle for him, he would see us and enjoy his food as well. *As a curious note, all people who make food offerings say that after this day, altar food loses its flavor, meaning that it was somehow consumed by our loved one.
Whether these beliefs are truth or not, for me, it is a beautiful, magical tradition that I grew up with.

The thumb design is just a representation of papel picado (cut out paper) that adorns altars and many other Mexican celebrations.

I hope you liked this nail art and learned a bit more about this Mexican holiday.
Día de muertos is more than painting your face as a sugar skull. I hope this day never loses its true meaning which is: honoring and remembering our lost loved ones...gone but never forgotten♥

2x1 Halloween nail art

Hello dear readers!

Here are my last Halloween manicures of this year.

It was hard to decide on just one nail art, so I did one on each hand.
More pics and details below...

First, on my left hand, I stamped a ghost and skulls designs from my HD-H plate.
I used mundo the uñas white for stamping.

On my thumb, I stamped a spiderweb from that same plate.

On my right hand, it was a classic orange/black color combo. I stamped a pattern from my HD-G plate. It has little cats, bats and crosses.
Here you can see on more detail.

This nail art wasn't as elaborated or planned as I usually like, but I still liked the end result.

So, if you celebrate Halloween, I wish you have a fun and safe night!

Hello dear readers!

Here's my 2nd Halloween-inspired nail art.

This time, it's all about the spiders...

I started by wearing 2 coats of Barielle Taupe Notch, part of their Me Couture collection

Then, I stamped spiderweb and spider designs from Bunny Nails HD-C plate.
I used Color Club Harp on It for the holographic effect and Nabi metallic black for the spiders.

Cute little spiders crawling on my nails...just for Halloween

I hope this served you for some inspiration to make your own manicure this Halloween that's just around the corner ;)

Hello dear readers!

If you live in the USA, I hope you had a nice 4th of July.

I didn't have time to do a proper post about a 4th of July inspired nail art, but here is what I posted on Instagram:

I stamped using Essie - There's no place like Chrome over my red, white, blue base.
I used Bunny Nails holiday plate HD-A for the stars and lines.

In this case, I used Holographic silver, red and blue
-Harp on It by Color Club (silver)
-Vermelho Surreal by Jade (red)
-Summer Stagazing by ILNP (blue)

Very simple but appropriate for the occasion.

Valentine Candy Hearts

Hello dear readers!

Here a really quick post of my last Valentine's day mani of this year...

I used the heart design and phrases from stamp plate HD-A to make conversational hearts. I stamped with Sally Hansen Insta-dri nail polishes and I used NYC Matte topcoat, which is not matte in my opinion, but a satin finish.

Sorry for the crappy last pic...I took them in a hurry to prepare for my own Valentine's day with my boyfriend. I still have to do my makeup and hair :D

Happy Valentine's day to all of you... hope you have a very nice day with your loved one or friends ♥♥♥

Love, Love, Love...

Hello dear readers!

Here's my 1st Valentine's day manicure.

For this nail art I used OPI - Chic from Ears to Tail as the base and stamped heart and love chain designs from holiday Stamping plate HD-B. I stamped the designs using Nabi nail polish in black.

As you can see, the design is not a pattern. I had to stamp the designs one by one, but still was very easy and fast to do.

Did you like this nail art?

2 Types of New Year Nail Art for 2014

Hello dear readers!

Today I'm showing you 2 different types of new year nail art.
On the last 2 years, I usually do one nail art based on the Chinese New Yr and its zodiac. I did the yr of the dragon in 2012 and the yr of the snake in 2013. This time, I wanted to mix things a little bit by doing my usual Chinese zodiac-inspired nail art and and another one that represents new year generally.

More details below...

First, I'll show you the year of the horse nail art...

This is by far my favorite theme for new year. I like how you can incorporate the animal in the manicure; this gives endless possibilities for creativity

For this manicure I used Maybelline Colorshow in Sandstorm as the base. I topped it with a 24k gold flake topcoat by Ninja Polish. I painted the numbers and the horse head using Oumaxi acrylic paints. I added flower nail stickers for extra decoration.

For the thumb, I painted a red square and stamped the Chinese Fú character that means "Happiness" or "good fortune" using QA21 stamp plate.

Now, on my 2nd new year nail art I wanted to capture the overall mood of celebration seen worldwide like the fireworks and people getting together to welcome a new year.

For this nail art I used Revlon Top Speed in Black Star as the base. I stamped fireworks, people, 2014 numbers using designs from HD-E stamping plate.

That's it for my 2014 nail art...

♥♥Thank you to all of you who take their time to leave a comment on each of my posts. If you just prefer to come and read my posts, I thank you as well. You have made a very pleasant 2013 for me♥♥
Now, let's welcome 2014 with new hopes and inspiration!

I wish all of you a very happy new year. I hope 2014 is filled with happiness and prosperity  for all of us ;)

Happy New Year!
¡Feliz año nuevo!

Merry Christmas! Nice and Naughty Nail Art

Hello dear readers!

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Christmas time with your loved ones.

It's still the 25th here... not too late to post about the manicure I wore yesterday.

I called this manicure "Nice and Naughty" because there are two different Xmas themes going on each hand.
On the left you can see snowflakes with hearts, that's the "nice" theme.
On the right side, you can see an ugly sweater pattern design, but in the middle of the 4 nails, you can see the reindeer getting a little naughty with each other...

See? At least, that was the idea

I used Christmas plates HD E & F for all the designs on this manicure. The red nail polish is China Glaze - red Satin. In the case of the naughty reindeer, I transferred the designs onto the stamper, covered with clear topcoat, let dry. After that, I applied top coat on my nails and placed the reindeer accordingly. I used the stamp decal technique.

I hope you liked this manicure.

Christmas Snow Bunnies

Hello dear readers!

Today I want to show you really quick another Christmas inspired nail art...

For this nail art I used Lacquer Lust Aquamarine as the base. For my thumbs, index and pinky I stamped a snowflake pattern from HD-F stamping plate. On my middle and ring fingers, I added some crushed glitters in white color, stamped bunnies from plates HDA & B and I added China Glaze - There's Snow one Like you on the tips to give that textured snow effect.

I hope you liked this nail art

Holographic Snowflakes

Hello dear readers!

Here's my first Christmas nail art of the year. For this one, I wanted something a bit subtle, Christmas-y and yet not screaming "Jingle bells, Jingle bells...!" or at least, that was my idea :D

More details and pics below
(All pictures can be enlarged)

I started with Revlon - Black Star as the base. This is a beautiful dark charcoal color, almost black. It also has a touch of shimmer, it's not very visible but it makes the polish a special color.

Then, I followed by stamping Snow flake designs and patterns from Bunny Nails stamping plates HD E & F. I used Color Club - Harp on it as my stamping polish  because it has a very strong holographic shine.

Very simple, right? Hopefully, I will make more elaborated xmas nail art on my upcoming posts ;)
