Happy New Year! Year of the Snake Nails

Dear Readers,

I just finished my nail design for new year. 2013 is the year of the snake according to the Chinese calendar and I wanted to base my design on this. Chinese new year is going to be on February 10th, you still have time to do this nail art ;).

Here is what I came up with:
(pictures can be enlarged)

This is how I made this design:
-I started with a sheer beige nail polish as the base + 2 coats of OPI - Pirouette my Whistle
-I used Oumaxi dark green acrylic paint and painted the snake in a shape that resembles the 2013 numbers and the Happy New Year letters.
-Painted small lines and eyes on the snake using Oumaxi gold paint. I also painted the tongue with red paint from the same brand.
-Added floral nail stickers and a little bit of gold flake on the empty spaces and finished up with Out the Door top coat.

I love the outcome. It is the 1st time I use acrylic paint and I have to say that I love it, way better than using nail polish to draw on my nails. If I made a mistake, I can just scratch it off when dried or swipe it with a damp napkin. Also, my freehand nail art does not smudge when applying top coat!
I don't do freehand nail art often and I wanted to do something special for New Year.
I hope you like this nail art ;)

I wish all of  you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Hello, dear readers! Are you prepared for Christmas?

Here's the last Christmas nail art I did. This time, I used Color Club - Cold Metal as the base. I stamped snowflakes designs from XL K plate. To add more to this nail art, I applied matte white glitter one by one.
It's very simple but I really liked the end result.
Here are other Christmas nail art that I've done previously in case you would like to take a look... You still have time to do some cute nail art! (Click on the images to redirect you to the post)

That's it for today! I really wish all of you a Merry Christmas in the company of your loved ones. Take care!

Lovely Christmas Nail Art

Christmas is around the corner and I would like to show you the nail art that I will be wearing this time.

I called it Lovely Christmas because of the snowflakes... If you look closely, the bigger ones have hearts on them. Those snow flakes looks like a hybrid of Valentines and Christmas. I also thought that using red as the base would be a perfect match for the heart-snowflakes.

(Pictures can be enlarged)

For this nail art, I applied french tip guides on the moons of my nails and painted my nails red using Color Club Red - Velvet to give a half moon manicure. After that, I applied nail art stickers with snowflake and heart shapes. I also applied iridescent glitter from Kleancolor - Sugar coat to give an extra sparkle.

I hope you like this nail art as much as I do ;-) I will be posting another Christmas nail art soon.

Chellenge: Matte Finish Nails

Hello dears!

Yesterday's challenge for FB AIS was using a matte topcoat on my stamping manicure. This is one of the easiest challenges because I could use any design as long as I applied a matte topcoat.
This challenge was a special one because I  noticed lots and lots of great manicures from the other ladies in the group.

Here is what I came up with:

I used 2 coats of a white nail polish a a base.
I stamped a floral design from XL M plate using Kleancolor - Metallic Pink as the stamping polish and finished the manicure with Kleancolor - Maddly Matte topcoat.

What do you think of this manicure?

Challenge: Let my Boyfriend Choose a Design

Hello Dears!

Today's challege for FB, group Adventures in Stamping consists in letting your boyfriend or husband choose a design. I asked my boyfriend over the phone if he could help me with this challenge. More details below:

(Pictures can be enlarged)

His idea was to use a black nail polish as the base and a stamping design that had a bubble-like pattern in gold. To finish up the manicure, he said it would be a good idea to make some type of gradient on the tips in gold too.

I used Kleancolor in black for the base. Then, I stamped the bubble pattern from XL D plate using Maybelline Colorshow in Bold Gold. I used a makeup sponge and sponged the same gold nail polish on the tips of my nails to accomplish the gradient effect.

I loved his idea. I think I will let him suggest me more nail art ideas in a future ;)

Did you like his nail art idea and the result too?

My Nails for Día de Muertos (Day of the dead)

Hi dear readers!

I want to show you my manicure for Day of the Dead.

To those who are not familiarized with this festivity. It is a Mexican festivity that takes place in Nov. 1st (for children) and Nov 2nd (for adults). It is a day to remember your loved ones who have passed away. It is believed that on this day, the spirits of loved ones come back to their families. That is the reason many people visit the cemetery and make offerings with flowers, food and other things that the deceased liked when they lived.

To guide the spirit of a loved one to ones home, people arrange altars and adorn it with cut out paper and make offerings of fruits, food, flowers and skulls made of sugar. Candles are lit because the light will guide the spirits to their homes.

As you can see, I tried to add many elements this tradition into this manicure. Everything you see (except the little dots around the skull eye socket ) was made using nail stamping plates.
The stamp plates I used:
A03, A30, A44, A57, AT03, BuNa01, GCOCL C02, HD03, HD04, m55, QA6, XL F and XL K (holiday).

Nail polishes I used:
Base - OPI Who are You Wearing?
Stamping polishes - Sally Hansen Insta-dri in Silver Sweep, Brisk Blue, Snappy Sorbet, Mint Sprint, Lickety Split Lime, Lively Lilac, Presto Pink, Speedy Sunburst, Lightening and Konad White.

I really wanted to share this manicure with you because this celebration has a special meaning to me and I feel very close to this tradition.

I hope you like this manicure and if you didn't know about this day, I hope you learned something new with this post.

Challenge: Using a plate with the # of the day you were born

Hello dear readers!

Oct. 28 Challenge manicure for FB group Adventures in Stamping was using a stamping plate with the number of the day you were born. In this case, I used A series stamp plate A25.

 (Pictures can be enlarged)

I used China Glaze -  Sunset Sail as the base color and a reddish brown stamping polish from Konad.

I really like this color combination, it gives this manicure a romantic, vintage look.
In a previous post, I've used the same color combination, you can take a look here.
I showed this manicure to my friend and she said it was perfect for Valentines Day...I should have waited  until then to do this manicure...

What do you think of this manicure? I hope you like it :)

Halloween Pumpkin Nail Art and Tutorial

Hello dear readers!

Today I decided to do a freehand nail art featuring a Halloween design. (Last year's Halloween nail art here)
This time, Halloween pumpkins were my inspiration.

Below you will see step by step pictures and instructions on how I did this nail art.

First, I painted my nails using a dark purple nail polish. I used Orly's Fowl Play.

Using an orange color nail polish (or acrylic paint), paint the tip of your nails making semicircular edges at the top of the design. The nail polish I used is Ulta - Sun of a Gun.

With a metallic or glittery nail polish paint the outline of the pumpkin. I used Kleancolor - Metallic Orange.

Now, paint the faces of the pumkins. The facial expressions are up to you ;)

Paint stems and leaves on the top of the pumpkins. I used Kleancolor -  Metallic Green.

This step is optional: you can add any glitter, dots, etc... I painted some candies on the accent nails using to finish the design. I added wrapped candies on the thumb and candy corns on my ring finger nail.

Finished!

I hope you liked this nail art. You still have time do it yourself for this Halloween ;)

Challenge: Metallic Madness

Hello dear readers!

This Sunday's challenge for Adventures in Stamping consisted in using stamping with a metallic or chrome finish nail polish.

This time I used my pendant as a stamp plate because the engraving works very well for that purpose :)
I have used this stamp on previous posts, here and here.
 (All pictures can be enlarged)

I used Kleancolor Pearl Fuchsia for stamping on top of a black nail polish base.

Did you like this way of stamping?

Challenge: Using a French Tip Design

Hello again!

Last Sunday's challenge on FB group, Adventures in Stamping was using a french tip design. The cool thing is that I could use a french tip design and stamp it any way I wanted.

This time I decide to do a simple manicure:

I used: Zoya Gigi as the base and stamped designs from Konad m77 plate using Kleancolor Black.
If you would like to know how I stamped the accent nail you can click here.

Did you like this manicure? How would you do it differently?

Jade Holografico Haul + Swatches

Hello Dear Readers!!

I have an overdue post today showing  you my Jade holographic nail polish haul that I purchased at Ninja Polish. Some swatches below too ;)

From left to right: Hypnose, Verrmelho Surreal, Energy, Fascínio Violeta, Delírio Rosa
There are 10 different colors from this collection, I will take pictures of the others later ;)

I think that at $7.50 a bottle is a pretty affordable holographic nail polish collection. The linear holographic effect is impressive!
Another plus from these nail polishes is the opacity, I only needed 1-2 coats and the brush is very good to apply even coats. I think once I finish one of these bottles I will use it to pour my favorite clear top coat in it ;)

Now to some swatches... No, these are not my nails (My boyfriend agreed to swatch these colors hehe)
Long story short, it was in a day I was feeling down and to cheer me up a little bit, he let me paint his nails. Too bad he immediately removed the nail polish once I took some pictures...

Now here is my swatch of Delírio Rosa, a barbie pink holographic polish.
These are pictures from a month ago. Yes, my nails were crazy long, I cut off some length now.

Now a romantic swatch...? I don't know... I really like his hands, he should do some swatches for my blog from now on!
