Accidents happen...

After a few months keeping my nail length intact, this was an accident waiting to happen...

For those interested, I'll tell you what happened:

I was trying on some skinny jeans in the dressing room of  Forever 21. I had not difficulty putting them on or closing the button. (With this length, I guess it's must be hard for you to imagine how I do small stuff like this).

Everything was normal, the jeans fit me nicely and I was ready to take off the last one, but I guess the leg of the jean was way too tight. I had some difficulty taking it off, so I used my left hand to try to get it off my foot and then my thumb slipped and then... crack! That's the sound I heard while I felt this acute pain coming from my nail bed. When I looked, my left thumb nail was bleeding (more blood than in this pic, believe me). The crack you see is on both sides of the nail with only .5cm in the middle holding my nail together.

I completed my purchase and went straight home to fix this mess... I had to put on acetone (ouch!) to remove nail polish and then cut my nail...not completely, I still can fix this split with resin and silk wrap until it grows out my nail bed. I cut my nails half length of what they were and that's it.

So, yeah... that's what can happen when you have long nails, you can injure yourself when you least expect it. This hurt so much but I handled it nicely, my bf was so surprised I wasn't crying.

I'll show you my new nail length next time ;)

Have you had an accident like this while trying to grow your nails long?

♥♥Thank you for reading♥♥

  2. I just cut them half the length I had... I think it's been years since I had my nails literally short :)

  4. ¡Vaya! Siento el accidente, pero bueno a ti parece que te crecen deprisa las uñas así que seguro que pronto las vuelves a tener largas y luciendo tan bonitas como siempre ;)

  5. Oh noo =( Something similar kind of happened to me not long ago. I think I was also putting my pants on (lol) and SOMEHOW I don't even remember how, I guess I tugged too hard or my nail got caught and it just ripped off completely, past its skin. Super painful

    1. Yeah, it's really painful but thankfully in my case, the nail didn't rip off completely.

    2. Yes, it hurts so much when a nail breaks at the nail bed. My nail ended up hanging by .5cm of nail in the middle and that's why I had to cut a little bit and reinforce it with the combo of silk+resin.

    1. As you'll see on my next post, I did not cut them too short and I will be more careful next time they reach this length :)

  9. OUCH!!! I am so sorry! I did something similar last winter when I caught my pinky with a bath brush & bent the nail back. It cracked below the nail line & hurt like blue blazes! So much for my 1" nails. LOL I have found that using Orly's Nail Rescue (acrylic powder & nail glue w/a brush) as an undercoat helps reinforce my nails & I have had fewer breaks since I started doing this a year ago. Basically I only break a nail when this undercoating has grown out too much or needs maintenance. <3

    1. That's exactly what happened with my thumb...when it slipped I hit it under the free edge which caused my nail to bend and break backwards, the most painful nail injury I ever had so far :'(
My nails are thick and strong, but I've started to use a nail cream to give my nails more flexibility and prevent breaks. I'll see if it works once I've reached a certain length :)

    2. Your nails are indeed thicker than mine! It's the free edge right next to the nail that seems to be weakest cuz it hasn't had time to harden up. Alas...the woes of the long nailed. lol
